Ethical Standards

Code of ethics

Estudios de Administración seeks to meet the highest possible ethical standards for its publications, as suggested by COPE (see https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines)

About the authors

Authorship refers to those responsible for the preparation of an academic publication. Those who make other contributions to the preparation of the articles will be deemed “collaborators” and should be mentioned in the acknowledgments section of the article.

Ethical responsibility and good practices of the authors

When submitting a manuscript for editorial review to Estudios de Administración (Business Administration Studies), all authors accept the norms of ethics, publication and intellectual property of the Journal. Articles are evaluated subject to a double-blind peer review system; they must be original manuscripts, and not be considered for publication by other means. Authors should ensure the inclusion in the manuscript of those who have contributed significantly to the research. Generally-speaking, the publication of identical material in more than one Journal is considered unethical and will not be tolerated. Authors must take pains to ensure the correct and thorough citation of sources of any information that is used in the preparation of the manuscript. Information that has been obtained by private means cannot be published without the consent of the corresponding person or institution. Similarly, the authors must report the sources of financing of their work in the manuscript, as well as potential conflicts of interest that could somehow influence the impartiality of the work carried out. Any type of corrections or retractions requested by the committee and/or the editorial team of Estudios de Administración (Business Administration Studies) must be made by the authors. In any event, the authors may report any anomaly or mistake in the publication to the e-mail of the Journal estudios@unegocios.cl. The correction will be amended per errata report in the following publication.

Ethical responsibility and best practices of the editorial team

The editorial team will ensure that there is the necessary regularity in the processes and standards of publication, from reception of the manuscript, its peer review, through to its production and dissemination. The editorial team will be sure to evaluate the relevance of the work received vis-à-vis the scope and objectives of the Journal, and verify compliance with its publication and ethical standards, avoiding copyright infringement and plagiarism. They will make decisions about the manuscripts sent to Estudios de Administración (Business Administration Studies), regardless of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality or political ideology of the authors. They will protect the confidentiality of the information related to the authors, data included in the article, analysis performed or conclusions drawn during the peer evaluation process. Moreover, the editorial team will safeguard the prestige of the Journal against any ethical conflict that may result from its actions as a source of academic publications.

Ethical responsibility and best practices of the reviewers

The reviewers are professionals and / or academics with specialized knowledge in various areas of business administration, of diverse origins and institutional affiliation. The evaluation peers are assigned according to the criteria of the editorial team, expected to act according to the suitability of the subject discussed in the manuscript within their sphere of knowledge. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the reviewer may request reallocation of her/his work in the case of work that does not fall within her/his area of expertise, or any conflict of interest. Similarly, if the time factor is a limitation to conducting the peer review, the evaluators must timely inform the editor, rejecting the invitation extended to participate as a referee. In response to citation rules, the reviewers will warn about omission of relevant sources, or the existence of total or partial plagiarism. Estudios de Administración is committed to constructive criticism, so it can be expected that any neutral, articulated and well-founded criticism made will only go towards helping to improve the quality of the article. The recommendations must be presented in the Journal's evaluation format, accepting, accepting with improvements, or rejecting the scientific article presented. Any work subject to review is considered confidential, so reviewers may not submit same to third parties, either in whole or in part.

Process in the recognition of unethical conduct or major errors in published material

If unethical conducts, or major errors are detected, must be reported to the Journal’s Editor, offering enough information and evidence to initiate the corresponding investigation process. Any complaint received will be considered with all seriousness and treated indistinctly, until the situation is clarified. To do so, the Editor will choose the form considered pertinent for carrying out the investigation and may request the advice of the editorial committee, the peer reviewer, or an academic commission appointed ad hoc. In case of disqualification, the authors will be formally notified of the unethical behavior, explaining in detail the evidence existing of the activity. Estudios de Administración will publish an editorial comment detailing the inappropriate behavior and will proceed to withdraw or eliminate the work(s) under review.

In accordance with the COPE guidelines, the Editor may retract an article in the following cases: major errors in the investigation including miscalculation; inappropriate conduct such as plagiarism, use of unauthorized material content or others that may involve legal issues; or unethical misconduct such as data fabrication or segmented posting (“salami slicing”). In such cases, Estudios de Administración will publish a "Retraction Note" linked to the published article, informing the applicant of the retraction and the reason for the retraction. The previously published article will be available with a "retraction" watermark, with a link to the respective retraction notice. In the case of corrections that do not invalidate the research or its results, Estudios de Administración will publish a "Correction Note", without altering the original publication.

PLAGIARISM POLICY

Estudios de Administración disapproves of any form of plagiarism, in whole or in part of any manuscript. Plagiarism refers to deliberately copying others’ work without appropriate acknowledgement or references to the original work. This includes the duplication of prior publications by the same author(s). In order to verify the originality of the manuscripts submitted, Estudios de Administración employs so-calledplagiarism checking software" as a preliminary step of the editorial revision process.

When plagiarism is detected in material under review, the editorial team will alert the authors to the need for a content revision and request the rewriting or proper citing of the original work that is the source of such content. The manuscript will be rejected if the percentage of plagiarism is over 30%. However, the manuscript can be submitted at any time to Estudios de Administración, once the errors have been corrected using citations, references or own interpretations of the authors, which resolve the problem of plagiarism in the document.

Estudios de Administración encourages authors to use plagiarism checking software prior to final submission.
